Romance In Your Marriage

I have heard many times that keeping the romance alive keeps the marriage alive. On some level I do believe that this is true, although romance is not actually a need it definately seems to help. Men sometimes are lost as to what they can do to be romantic, my guess is they don’t seem to think about it, like we do. As a disclaimer right now I would like to say I do know that there are several men out there that are romantic, mostly though they are just in the soap operas I sometimes get to watch. Back to the point, I have decided to research what a woman can do to get her husband/ significant other to be more romantic. So here is a little list of tips I have.

1. Leave clues, men can be completely clueless when it comes to women, so leave little clues here and there. Such as in a book he reads, on the remote, through someone else, an e-mail. We all know how clueless our men are by the time marriage rolls around, so you should know how subtle you can be.

2. Be romantic yourself, make it a regular thing to be romantic yourself, and hopefully once he enjoys it, he will initiate it himself.

3. Be blunt, buy him a book and ask him to read it, better yet get one for the both of you and read it together. As you go through it make notes in the margin of things you would both like. The book 1001 ways to be Romantic would be a great start for this tip because there would be so much to pick from.

4. Make a regular date to just be together, away from the kids, and other family, go through other couple books that ask questions of each of you, you might learn something new about yourself or your spouse.

5. Finally read yourself, books about communication with men, romance, and books or articles about the minds of men. They are quite different than women, and you can find explanations to many of their odd behaviors.

Marriage and Relationships

I have only been married for 1.5 years. But it is to a great man. However no matter how great a person is, marriage can be hard, have bad times, and not always be great. There are a couple of books I have read on marriage that teach you how to best get through your “down times”. The one I like the most is The Five Love Languages. Basically it just teaches you how to show your spouse love the way they would like to be loved. The other book that I like is Lies at the Altar. This one is by a friend of Oprah’s and is actually for people before they get married, it lists many questions couples should ask each other, before getting married. I probably like this one so much because my husband doesn’t talk much and this helps us have more conversations.

Other than books I have come across some pretty good sites, like Your Romance Guide which has information about many loving relationships. And Loving You is another. If anything at all we can forward these to our husbands, those of us who have those husbands with no ideas about romance. Lol!

I just thought I would add that the author of the five love languages, also has a site called Marriage Vine, you can sign up for emails to get to learn how to make the most of your marriage. I got them for months, and saved all of them, so many are just very practical helpful advice.
