We Get Letters
Posted by DebIt’s been a while but reader mail is back. I’m not sure yet if we’ll continue to do this every week, maybe once a month. Thanks again for all of your emails. I realize I’m way behind and I apologize for that. Now that the holidays are over, we’re back on track.
Dear Deborah,
Why do you look down on WAHMs so much? Don’t you know we’re doing the best we can? Shame on you.
Garden Girl
Hi Garden Girl,
I’m not looking down on WAHMs, I’m one myself. This blog was started for WAHMs. My point is if WAHMs don’t want to be seen as a source of cheap labor, they should stop accepting the $2 gigs. If this sort of thing is OK with you, Rock on. I understand we all do what we have to do to survive and I have much respect for WAHMs for finding a way to stay at home with their kids while earning an income. While I do know better work is out there, I respect whatever decision you make.
Good luck,
Deb
Dear Deb,
Why don’t you let my comments go through? Don’t be a hater.
Steve
Hi Steve,
I love receiving comments, but there are times I have to draw the line. The problem is, you’re not commenting. You’re spamming. Your last twelve comments were "visit (link to your blog) to learn what I think." Comments with links are moderated and since your comments are only links to your blog, I consider them spam. My other rule is that you’re nice. That’s why love notes from a certain commenter who won’t be named *cough*camera obscurra under a variety of names and addresses*cough* don’t go through or are deleted. Disagreement is fine but if you’re going to be insulting to me or my community your comments aren’t welcome.
Do feel free to share in our discussions. There is a line under your name and email address to drop your link.
I look forward to your contributions.
Deb
Hi Deb,
I read your job list everyday and love your blog. Do you know how a freelance writer
can make it into the airline magazine writing area? Like writing for Air Canada or
American Airlines etc?
I was just curious as I focus on online travel publications and projects.
If you have any suggestions, I would love to hear them.
Thanks!Natasha
Hi Natasha,
I’m not familiar with in-flight markets, but from what I understand they’re lucrative and accept freelance contributions. I did do a little research however, and found a few helpful links for you.

Hope that helps!

Hi Deb,
Why so many ads lately. Don’t you think they clutter a blog?
A.T.
Hi A.T.,
I absolutely do! I wish we didn’t have to have ads at FWJ but there’s no way I could afford the lovely and talented Jodee without the ads. I’m trying to find "prettier" ads that don’t clutter the blog so much, but for now this is the best I can do.
Thanks for stopping by!
Deb
Dear Deborah,
How can you pontificate about slave wages when you work for b5 Media?
S.J
Dear S.J.,
I’m not earning slave wages at b5 Media. The base is low to start but the traffic bonuses make it a lucrative gig. Plus the base pay rises every three months. Blogging is what you put into it. Do you really think I’d handle 5 blogs for a company that doesn’t offer fair pay?
Hugs and kisses,
Deb
